The Mission
No one here will argue the fact that the ideal way to learn about BDSM is live--through a local social/education group, under the tutelage of an experienced player or reputable prodom(me), or at one of the many outstanding educational and networking conferences held all over the country.
Unfortunately, that excludes thousands of kink-interested people who can’t attend such events.
For some, it’s impractical due to privacy, family, financial, geographic, or logistical constraints.
Many want to play only in their own bedrooms and aren’t interested in the public Scene.
Others want to test the waters before deciding to pursue their interests at a live event.
Experienced players face another dilemma if they want to study a certain topic in depth and/or learn directly from a specific educator. There’s a limit to how much you can absorb in a 75-minute workshop that’s packed with other participants… and that’s assuming the expert you want is teaching the topic you want at an event that’s convenient for you.
In recent years, interest in S&M and fetish play has skyrocketed as it's become more visible in the popular media—and so has the volume of false and potentially dangerous information that continues propogating in cyberspace.
There’s some excellent information out there, too, but it can be hard to tell the difference and takes hours to sort through the chaff. People are getting nonconsensually hurt, physically and emotionally. People aren’t having nearly the amount of fun they could be.
Power Play Academy is an online educational institution developed to address these needs.
We believe that helping our best educators teach their courses online will translate to
- a larger pool of knowledgeable public players
- more couples having more fun behind closed doors
- fewer mishaps, and
- fewer negative stereotypes in the media
Supporting scene-related educational and advocacy groups is another part of our charter. Power Play Academy and its instructors donate 5% of tuition to the student’s choice of supported nonprofit organizations.
As the curriculum and faculty expand, we'll begin offering specialty tracks and diplomas (Bondage Specialist, Submissive Arts, Responsible Dominance, Leather Leadership, BDSM Humanities, and more). Some courses may ultimately blend e-learning content with live practicums.
We hope you’re as excited as we are about the potential for this visionary new method of BDSM education, and encourage your questions and suggestions. Please visit the contact page to e-mail the director, Ava Durga, or any of the listed faculty members. We'd love to hear your thoughts.
