About Power Play Academy

Power Play Academy was founded in 2006 to establish a viable and legitimate e-learning institution for power exchange play, the BDSM arts, and related forms of alternative sexuality. It is intended to serve both the active BDSM community and private "bedroom players" of all experience levels who want to safely (and oh-so-effectively!) incorporate some form of kinky play into their erotic repertoires  but find it impractical to attend live educational events. 

The idea was conceived during a discussion between PPA founder Ava Durga and a kink-curious colleague, then both managers for a leading online university. The busy colleague, new to BDSM play and eager to learn more, bemoaned the amount of time she  spent sifting through thousands of repetitive (and often conflicting) web sites for new information of interest to her and her husband.  More time was wasted when she stumbled upon porn sites that flooded her screen with pop-ups and dead ends.

Although books and DVDs were somewhat more focused, they offered only one person's perspective and lacked personal feedback and customized advice. Her attempts to get answers online meant deflecting scores of  trolls and cyberdoms who had (judging from their advice and demeanor) never touched a submissive in their lives. And while Ava’s colleague was fortunate enough to live in a large metro area with an active BDSM community, privacy and family concerns kept her from participating in live educational workshops.

The answer to this common dilemma was right under their noses: the online learning technology and educational processes they worked with every day were perfectly suited to filling in the gap between face-to-face expert mentoring and isolated self-study. 

It also offered a superb opportunity to provide financial support to lifestyle nonprofit organizations and provide increased public access to some of our most accomplished educators and researchers.  

 PPA offered its first two courses to a small inaugural class in November 2008: BDSM for Lovers with John Warren and The Seductive World of Female Domination with Auburn Goddess, both of which received Student Testimonials. Since then we have continued to refine the online learning experience and course delivery methods, begun adding more courses and instructors, added streaming webcam, and introduced online workshops and public service presentations..
